In the series, Cyd is a Torchwood officer who works for the British government organisation Torchwood, a secret organisation that protects the Earth from alien threats.
In "Out of Time", Cyd is introduced as a Torchwood operative who is sent to investigate a mysterious alien spacecraft. The spaceship is revealed to be a time ship, and upon entering it, Cyd finds a group of aliens who have survived a time-travelling accident. The aliens threaten to kill Cyd if she does not allow them to return to their own time period. Cyd refuses, and all of the aliens are subsequently killed by the ship's self-destruct mechanism.
