Tanigaki Genjirou personality type is ISFJ, he later discovers that Shigeru is a much stronger personality type than himself, and the reason why he allowed Shigeru to proceed with his plans is so he can become stronger (he is also more of a coward than Shigeru). He's also really powerful, once he had his whole body completely ripped off by a giant monster (he did this to prove his strength). He is the only character in the series who is able to use Nitta's sword, and did so (although he doesn't do it very well). He eventually realizes that he had been acting like an idiot, and that Shigeru was right all along.
Shigeru is the only character who seems to be able to get under Asano's skin. He had an alternate personality of sorts, which was created when he was younger. The main reason he wanted to become stronger was so that he wouldn't be killed by Asano. He also has the power to create illusions, which he uses to trick Asano. He is also extremely ruthless, once nearly killing Asano by stabbing him through the chest.
Genjirou Tanigaki is a Matagi of Tohoku and the former Private First Class of the 7th Division. After leaving the 7th Division, Tanigaki has struggled with finding his place in this world, but now it seems he's finally found his purpose.
