In regards to Akira's personality, I think it's more likely he's an INFJ than an INTP or INTJ. I mean, he has a certain dark-side of him, but it's not quite as dark and dramatic as some other characters in the movie (like, for example, Sidoh).
The most obvious thing about him is that he is very emotional. He's not perfect, and he's not even a good person. But this is something that is a part of him, and it's something that shows his inner perfectionist. He's an eternal optimist and he never gives up. He's so dedicated that he even becomes a rock-chucker / rock-thrower.
Whenever he feels his emotions getting to him, he simply shuts down and tries to get some distance from them by doing things like going rock-chucking (which is an act of aggression) or fighting people (which is an act of violence). But whenever he feels happy or content, he's always very open to others and willing to help them out, which definitely shows his dedication to helping others as well.
