As a young man, Edison’s interest in science and experimentation showed in his early education. He left high school at age 15 to enroll in a local business school, and it was there that he met Thomas Alva Edison, whom he would later marry. Edison also showed an aptitude for invention as an adult.
Although he didn’t do much in the way of inventing as a young man, Edison did invent the phonograph, the first long-lasting electric lamp, and the first industrial electrical system. He also founded three corporations.
Edison was also known to take risks and pursue his interests to the point of obsession, including losing money and workers in his attempts to perfect his inventions.
