Most of the actors I knew from college were in the Midwest—Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, etc. Why? Because the money is in the Midwest. It took me a while to understand this. I didn’t realize it until after I left and began doing stand-up comedy. The money was in New York and L.A., and we didn’t have a film or TV industry there because we didn’t have a film and TV industry in Los Angeles and New York.
It’s still true today. If you want to be a film critic or actor in Hollywood, then you need to live in L.A. or New York.
