His first love, as a child, was the sea, and he would spend hours at a time on a small boat in the sheltered waters of the river that runs through his hometown. He was lucky enough to have a family that accepted him for who he was. He was the only one of the three children who was not ashamed to be seen as different, and his family’s unconditional love nurtured his need for acceptance.
As an adult, he was drawn to the idea of becoming a sailor. He also wanted to break the monotony of his life in Leon, and so he moved to Spain’s second largest city, Valencia, where he got his first job as a waiter and then as a tour guide at a local museum. When that didn’t work out, he returned to Leon and got his first job as a tour guide at the local aquarium.
His dream came true when he became a professional sailor. He was hired as a crew member on a luxury yacht sailing around the islands of Galicia and Asturias.
