Lucian of Samosata (Greek: Λουκιανός; AD 95–165) was a Hellenistic Aramaic-speaking Christian theologian and philosopher from Antioch, Syria. He is best known for his work, True Doctrine (Greek: Αληθεία Πίστεως; Latin: Liber Veritatis), a Christian exegesis and defense of the doctrines of the Second Nicene Council.
Lucian was born in Antioch, to a Jewish-Syrian family, and was raised in Damascus. He lived in Rome until he went to Antioch, where he became a follower of the Christian teacher Lucian of Samosata. He was made presbyter of the church founded by Lucian and took charge of the city's school at the age of 25.
He wrote a number of works, which were circulated in and outside the church and became widely read through the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance.
