"The results of this study cannot provide a definitive answer regarding whether Asperger's or autism is a cause, but they do suggest that boys may be more likely to be diagnosed with autism," said lead author Dr. Rebecca Heiman.
"I think the main message is that many different factors play a role in autism and it's important for people with autism, their families, and especially physicians and other health care providers to recognize the autism traits that are present in the boys before they are diagnosed."
