Buhangin is the eldest child of the late lawyer and former mayor of Zamboanga City, Vicente B. Buhangin Sr., and his wife, Rosario S. Buhangin. She has an older sister, Victoria, and a younger brother, Vicente Jr.
She studied elementary at the Holy Spirit School graduating at grade 6. She then went on to study high school at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, graduating at grade 7. She took up college studies at the Ateneo de Manila University where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication, major in Mass Communications.
She pursued her studies further by taking up a master's degree in Mass Communications, Psychology, Psychology at the De La Salle University Graduate School of Santo Tomas. It was during this time that she became a radio personality for KTU and DZRH in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Buhangin also attended the NYU Graduate School of Journalism in New York, in 2002 and 2003 respectively.
