Leslie's story begins in the late 1980's when she was in her mid-twenties working as a preschool teacher at a preschool for very special needs children.
At the time Leslie was in a relationship with a fellow teacher and they wanted to start a family. However, both were single and had no children. Leslie and her partner decided to adopt a child. They went through many rounds of interviews, and finally decided on a five-year-old Indian girl. Leslie and her partner set out to raise their daughter in America and together give her the education she would need to be successful in life.
Once the adoption papers were signed, Leslie and her partner prepared to leave for India to begin their new life.
While in India, Leslie began to notice something was wrong with their adopted child.
