Albeit personality type is ISTJ, I can understand why you can come across as intimidating.
I am also the type of person who likes to help others and will help them if they need it; however, I'm not exactly a pushy person. You might be intimidated because of the stereotype that you're a pushy person.
It's quite common for people to associate ISTJs, especially the ones who are extroverted and introverted, as being pushy and bossy. That's not the case with me at all. I would only do so if I really felt like I needed to do so or if I thought it was the right thing to do.
You could just be overly cautious and worried about someone as I am as well.
An ISTJ as a parent, however, is much different than an ISTJ as a boss or any other position that is not personally involved.
I would say you're a good parent and a great father, but you could definitely work on being a better son.
I think people at work unfairly make you look unfairly intimidating and merciless.
