I didn't want to be a jerk and say anime characters' personality type is just a matter of what suits the story they're in, but I think that's the case with Yuuma. In the manga, he has a lot of emotion and caring for other people, but it's really hard to see that in the anime.
I hope that kind of deep character can be developed further in the anime.
