Ritsu Ippongo was born to a very poor family in Kyoto, Japan and lived with his father and mother. His father was a widower and worked in the fish market and his mother was a housewife. Ritsu was very close to his mother who was a big influence on him. He loved her so much that he often called her "Mommy" which would often annoy her at first, but she always has forgiven him and he just continued calling her 'Mommy'. However, she had always warned him that if he didn't grow up to be a good person that he would regret it later on. This was the first time Ritsu had heard these words from his mother before, but he still believed that if he didn't grow up to be good enough she would get upset with him.
Ritsu always stayed with his mother who worked as a saleswoman at a grocery store, but his father wasn't home at all.
