Ege Akpınar is a Turkish politician and a member of Kemalist tradition. Born on 16 February 1960 in Istanbul, he is a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey since 1 November 1999 representing the Istanbul Province electoral district as a member of the AKP (Justice and Development Party). He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey between 20 June 2002-5 March 2003 under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
From 23 June 2007 to 22 May 2011, Akpınar was the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, serving under Prime Minister Erdoğan. He was promoted to the post of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs on 23 June 2007, and was responsible for the Treasury, Finance and Customs Ministries. He held the rank of a minister of state. In this capacity, he was also responsible for the management of the Central Bank of Turkey. Akpınar was later appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs from 22 May 2011 to 12 June 2012, serving in this capacity under Prime Minister Erdoğan.
On 2 November 2013 he was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for European Union Affairs.
