Relativity of time and space
In the film "Back to the Future", Marty McFly's grandfather (played by actor Charles Eastman) is a scientist who studies time travel. He is able to send Marty back in time, but can only see two minutes into the future, and so he is always asking Marty what he sees, making it look like Marty is seeing something different than he is, which makes Marty think that he isn't actually seeing the future. This is a play on the relativity of time, where there exists no clear real beginning and end to time.
When Doc Brown and Marty are back in 1885, Doc Brown tells Marty to go to the Delorean time machine; however, Doc states that if Marty has already traveled to the past, he cannot return. Having been in the past, he cannot return to the present.
