Duke personality type is ISTP, sometimes called “The Engineer”. ISTPs are practical, trusting, and candid people who go with the flow, and that’s precisely why we’ve put them as the default personality type on the site. We feel ISTPs are the most accurate representation of the type, and so we feel it’s appropriate to make an ISTP the default type. (The only exception to this is if you are an INFJ or INTJ who thinks they are ISTP, which is a mistake.)
If you are an ISTP, you are the rarest of the rare. You are a member of 15% of the population, and yet you’re usually the most underrepresented type on this site. There are three main reasons for this: 1) ISTPs often aren’t naturally introspective, 2) they don’t see themselves as a personality type and they don’t see themselves as having any defining characteristics, and 3) they can sometimes be seen as “uncool” by their peers.
