It is revealed that Ruth died in a car accident, and that Gargamel subsequently married a female draper who went by the name of Mrs. McTee. In the episode "The Secret of Nimh", Mrs. McTee is revealed to have been the love of Gargamel's life, and it is implied that she died from a broken heart after discovering that he was a mouse. In an interview, Martin H. Schneider said that Gargamel's relationship with Mrs. McTee was meant to be "a metaphor for the relationship between an employer or manager and an employee or subordinate."
