She is the one who risks her life to rescue Offred and who gives up her life to save Offred. Her hallmark is taking care of others, whether it is the other women in the resistance, Offred, or even the Commander and his wife. I wouldn't call her selfless in the way that she is willing to sacrifice herself for others, but in the way that she is willing to sacrifice herself for Offred....and we can see that she doesn't even know her.
