The council decided to have our meetings at the shelter, so we could see what the day-to-day life was like for these people. I was excited about this new opportunity to experience life on the streets. During my first meeting, I met one of the guests, who had been there for over ten years, but he was still hopeful and positive. He asked me what I did that was fun. I told him I played basketball in college, played pickup basketball and softball in high school and I loved to travel. He asked if I played any instrument. I told him that I played a little guitar, but not professionally. He asked if I played at church and if I sang. He was confused when he heard that I didn’t play professionally. He asked if I ever thought about playing professionally or if I wanted to be a professional musician.
