Other than his parents, only his grandfather seemed to know of his secret. He was told that he "couldn't tell anyone" before he disappeared for two years. This may be the reason why he was so reluctant to talk about Beyond the Dreams.
It is unknown how he was raised, or if he had any friends, but it is revealed that he was brought up by his grandparents. He seems to be very close to his grandfather, as he is seen smiling at his old man's stories about "ghosts" telling him "not to tell anyone". It is possible that he only knew about ghosts after meeting Donnie, or that they were different kinds of spirits.
He is shown to be very kind and polite, as shown when he greets the other two Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present with a handshake after their introductions. He also does not show anger at the other two Ghosts for standing on the line of Donnie's timeline.
However, he is shown to be very stubborn and protective of his timeline.
