After high school, I decided to join the Army, and spent a year and a half in Germany. I did a tour of duty in Southern Iraq and was stationed in Baghdad. I decided to get out of the Army after 9/11 and go to law school at UCLA.
At the time I was at UCLA, I played in a band called The Mother's Head, which was a hardcore punk band. We signed with a label and did a couple of tours. We recorded an album, but it never got released because we broke up.
I met my current wife, Lori, at UCLA and we've been together ever since.
I went to law school and we moved to Dallas, Texas. I started working as a paralegal and we continued to play music and write songs. We played all over Texas and we finally started getting some recognition and we got a record deal. I quit my job to work on the album full time.
At the time, we were called The Dirty Three, but we changed our name to The Cat Empire. We recorded our first album, "The Cat Empire", which came out in 2006.
