But she was also a dreamer who believed she could do anything. In high school, her father died. She was overwhelmed by the tragedy and buried herself in her studies, trying to prove herself to her father’s memory.
She failed. Schoolwork became harder and harder, and she was always tired. She thought that nothing she did would ever be good enough. She would never be able to make up for her father’s death.
Her mom came under pressure from the parents of her friends to discipline her daughter. When she finally snapped, she lashed out at her mother by saying, “I’m not your daughter! I’m not your daughter!”
“You’re right, you’re not my daughter,” her mother replied. “You’re just a disappointment.”
