John Denver personality type is ISFP, and he is the archetypal example of this type. Self-effacing, he is nonetheless a strong and loyal friend. He has, in fact, appeared in the documentaries on his friend, and you can see that they are quite close. Denver was also a big supporter of gay rights and was an early supporter of the Log Cabin Republicans.
Like his friends, Denver was extremely private. He did not like being in the spotlight, preferring to be behind the scenes until the final years of his life. He was determined to be an independent artist and he kept his life in balance with a very successful television career, but mainly he was dedicated to his music career.
While Denver was a private person, he was also a humanitarian. He had no political agenda, but he did support causes he believed in. While still in high school, he started a scholarship fund for the disadvantaged youth of his hometown, which eventually became the fund for Rocky Mountain Youth Foundation.
It is likely that Denver would have continued as a private person if not for his near-death experience on a flight from London to Aspen in 1987. It is commonly believed that this experience changed him, but this is not what he claimed at the time.

After traveling and living in numerous locations while growing up in his military family, Denver began his music career with folk music groups during the late 1960s.
