Gábor Szabó is an internationally acclaimed, but also controversial Hungarian-born American writer of fiction for children and young adults, who is best known for his best-selling book series, The Baby-Sitters Club.
Gábor Szabó was born on the 30th of November, 1966 in Budapest, Hungary, to Eva Szabó, a Hungarian-born American nurse, and Ferenc Szabó, a Hungarian-born American structural engineer.
He was raised in an upper middle class family, with his father being a university professor, while his mother was a practicing nurse. During his youth, he was a very active and healthy child – he played sports and was a member of the scouts. He also participated in a variety of school clubs and societies – he was a member of the drama club, a member of the debating team and a tennis player.
He graduated from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics with a degree in computer science. He then traveled to the United States to study American literature at Brown University . It was during his college years that he became interested in writing.
