I went on a little rant about the whole ‘Wiccan is the most spiritually enlightened person’ thing in my post on the spiritual type and it raised some interesting questions regarding the Wiccan worldview. One of the things I pondered was what would happen if we were not all spiritual, but were materialists and paid attention to science instead.
I was never a big fan of science as a child, I was more into facts, figures and theories. I wanted to know about the world around me and how it worked, but had no interest in what made it tick. It was only when I went to university that I got interested in the scientific method, its limitations and how it could be used to make predictions.
I was a physics major for 3 years until I was forced to switch to chemistry for a whole semester because of budget cuts. Chemistry was a lot more fun and I enjoyed learning about the periodic table. After that I got a degree in chemistry and spent a year as an undergraduate teaching assistant before going on to do my PhD in biochemistry.
