In the video she talks about her childhood and early musical life. In particular, she describes how her parents were not supportive of her musical interests. They believed that a college education was a must, and there was no chance Nina would be able to afford it. She was the only child in the family, and her parents wanted her to go to college and become a doctor. Nina’s mother wanted her to be a doctor, and she didn’t want Nina to be a doctor because she thought it would be boring.
Nina’s parents were very strict with her. They didn’t want her to date anyone, and they didn’t want her to go to parties or dance at all. She couldn’t even go to the movies alone as a teenager without permission from her parents. This put a tremendous amount of stress on Nina as a young teenager.
