I think it's because of the almost total lack of emotion expressed in his music, and the almost total lack of emotion he expresses himself. He's like a robot that sometimes emits a few octaves of notes from a keyboard, and occasionally flashes a few lights.
I think it's because he's a very good songwriter. His songs are always interesting and playful, and they have a wide variety of styles. Some of them are just as disorienting as the music he plays on. But for me, it's the lyrics that I want to hear more of. But this is a long-winded way of saying that I agree with everyone else, including Rob. He's a very interesting and unique artist, and I have no idea what he's doing now, or what he'll be doing in the future.

Until the announcement of the 70th birthday release of his recordings in 2008, Vega was widely thought to have been ten years younger; the 2005 book Suicide: No Compromise lists 1948 as his birth year and quotes a 1998 interview in which Vega talks about watching Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show (1956) as a "little kid".
