I think it's because of the almost total lack of emotion expressed in his music, and the almost total lack of emotion he expresses himself. He's like a robot that sometimes emits a few octaves of notes from a keyboard, and occasionally flashes a few lights.
I think it's because he's a very good songwriter. His songs are always interesting and playful, and they have a wide variety of styles. Some of them are just as disorienting as the music he plays on. But for me, it's the lyrics that I want to hear more of. But this is a long-winded way of saying that I agree with everyone else, including Rob.
