Ian Bruce startetd his career as a painter. While at Edinburgh, he was also the MC for a group of DJs called 'Trouble'. However, he felt that his "insistence on wearing a three piece suit for gigs was a little incongruous with the general vibe."
In 2007 he founded The Correspondents, a British electro swing duo, described by the Evening Standard as 'the kings of hip-hop swing' and by the Hounslow Chronicle as having developed 'a reputation for setting parties alight' with his on-stage charisma and wild dancing. The Correspondents were retired in October 2020, following the unexpected passing of Bruce's bandmate and producer Tim "Chucks" Cole. Although Bruce prefers to avoid heavy promotion, the band developed a sizeable cult following.
In 2009, Bruce was selected as one of the Courvoisier 'Future 500' people expected to be a success in their various fields.
He continues to produce new music as Mr. Bruce, where he explores his relationship to grief and the losses he had in his life.
