I think the best way to understand my character is to understand his love for my son.
Since the beginning of the book, I have done everything I could to protect him. When he was in danger, I was always there for him, fighting battles with the demons of the past. I’ve sent him to his grandmother in England to be raised, leaving him with his uncle, Ollie. I’ve kept him far away from the dangers of London.
I was always there to save him, even when he didn’t want me to be. I watched out for him, protected him, and did whatever I could to keep him safe.
However, my love for Edward was not enough to keep him safe.
Edward has gone through so much in his life already. From the moment he was born, he had to deal with terrible abuse at the hands of his father’s business partner. His father was an alcoholic who had never cared for Edward, only using him to further his own power. He used Edward for sex, drugs, and violence.
Lord Loss is the first novel in the Demonata series written by best-selling teenage horror author Darren Shan. It was originally published in the UK on 6 June 2005. Soon after, it appeared in Japan and America, where Shan's previous series, The Saga of Darren Shan, had sold millions. The novel is set in Ireland and is told in present tense first person through Grubbs Grady, a child whose family are all chess players.
