In the 1970s Veile became involved with a group of women who claimed to be witches. She used her newly discovered "witchcraft powers" in an attempt to find her father, who had disappeared while crossing the border from Mexico into the United States.[1] "There were images of my father, visions that he was at a certain place and time, but they were always changing," she said. "I even saw him at a different place and time on several occasions."[2]
Veile claimed to have made contact with spirit guides and spirits, and in one instance went so far as to make a pact with a "Black Angel", the devil himself. Her experiences eventually led to the end of her career as a journalist,[2] for which she blamed her own clairvoyance and the influence of her pagan friends.[1]
In 1987 Veile was arrested for animal cruelty after she tortured tame dogs in her home.[3]
