Natsume's interests include gardening, cooking and reading. Although she is friendly and outgoing, she is also very serious and will not tolerate nonsense. She has a very strong sense of justice and is determined to uphold it. Natsume is known to be extremely stubborn and will refuse to compromise if she believes her principles are being violated. This trait was especially prominent in the start of the series where she refused to back down against a powerful witch (who had all but killed her) even though her methods were questionable.
She is sometimes too harsh on Yukari, who she sees as her closest friend, especially when it comes to their respective jobs as shrine maidens. Yukari is also the one who usually tells Natsume what she needs to do, which makes Natsume mad at her sometimes. Natsume also has a strong dislike for ghosts, especially those who are mischievous such as the Youkai Araragi-hime and the ghost Ginko-hime. The main reason for this is because she believes that the spirits are too dangerous, which is why she would want to rid them from their world.
