Boris Badenov was a Russian operative of the Grand Duchy's secret police. He was an expert in explosives and directed operations with his own hands. He was also a fan of Nika, who was in love with him. Boris Badenov played an important role in the final fight between the Dukes of the Grand Duchy and Count Vongo, in which he served as a leader of the armed forces. After defeating Count Vongo, Boris Badenov was declared the new ruler of the Grand Duchy. As a token of his gratitude for saving the Grand Duchy, Nika gave Boris Badenov her handkerchief, which was later used by him in many missions.
One of Boris Badenov's most important missions was the attempt to destroy the mind-control devices that Count Vongo had planted in the Grand Duchy's citizens, which were causing them to act insane. To do this, he invented a special helmet that could block out all electronic signals, and then wore it himself during the raid on Count Vongo's castle.
Boris Badenov is an antagonist of the 1959–1964 animated cartoons Rocky and His Friends and The Bullwinkle Show, collectively referred to as The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show for short. He was voiced by Paul Frees. Badenov's name is a pun on that of the 16th-century Russian Tsar Boris Godunov. His accent and explosive temper are a homage to Hollywood actor Akim Tamiroff, especially Tamiroff's role in The Great McGinty, a 1940 movie directed by Preston Sturges. Badenov was created by Bill Scott, who based the character's appearance on that of Gomez Addams.
