Myers first used the term to describe people who are independent, ingenious, exploratory, self-reliant, and who live by their own set of values. ISTPs are known for their independent spirit, which can lead them to be stubborn. They are often the first to come up with new ideas, especially in areas that are new to them, because they are so independent. ISTPs are excellent at taking charge. They are capable of making things happen that other people might not be able to. They are self-reliant and can handle things on their own. They like to be able to do things on their own and like to feel like they can take charge and be in control. ISTPs like to look for the best way to do something and they like to be able to do things with their hands and be physical. Most ISTPs prefer working with their hands and with things that they can see and touch with their hands. They like to ask people if they can help or if they can make a suggestion.
