Cognitive Biases of the INTP
1. System Justification
This is a cognitive bias which is quite common among everyone, but particularly among INTPs. It may be called the tendency to rationalize or justify your actions or feelings after the fact.
It is the way INTPs try to justify themselves and their actions, usually when they have done something wrong. When they realize they should have done something differently, they try to find a logical reason why they did that thing in the first place. They like to use reason to justify their actions, rather than emotion or intuition – which is why they are often hard to convince about their mistakes.
2. The Overjustification Effect
If INTPs are in an environment where there is no logical reason for them to do something, they will often find one if they really need it. This cognitive bias is called the “overjustification effect” (also known as the “stereotype-confirmation effect”).
