He also proposed that all things were made from this single substance, and that only a part of the air existed in the form of fire. Anaximenes is widely believed to be the first person to use the name air, as it is written in his book, as far as we know today, Anaximenes theory is not proven correct, yet it is interesting and still worth reading. He considered that the air consists of four parts, and that they were fire and earth, water and they were constantly in a state of change and change was the basis of all life. He also used an analogy to describe this process. The atmosphere is like a jar with a narrow mouth and the wind like a thread which constantly winds itself around it and constantly changes its position, Anaximenes described this as a never ending process. He also suggested that water existed as a state of water vapor.
