Like many of the great scientists, Peirce was a bit of a showman. He wrote two books, one on logic and the other on the philosophy of science. His research on logic led him to develop an early version of Boolean logic which he called logic 0. He also developed his own system of quantification called quantization. He is credited with inventing the semaphore code and symbolic logic. He also developed the theory of variables which has been used in computer science ever since and is still used in everyday programming.

Like many ENTJs, Peirce suffered from bouts of depression. He was a recluse for most of his life, devoting most of his time to science and to the marriage of his daughter, Helen. Peirce was one of the first scientists to study the effects of LSD on human beings.

He was also a prolific letter writer, sending more than 3,000 letters to friends and acquaintances between 1876 and 1906. Many of these letters are included in The Letters of Charles Sanders Peirce, edited by Paul Weiss and Arthur W.

Today he is appreciated largely for his contributions to logic, mathematics, philosophy, scientific methodology, semiotics, and for his founding of pragmatism.
