    Ferdinand Buisson, born December 20, 1841 in Paris and died February 16, 1932 in Thieuloy-Saint-Antoine, is a French philosopher, pedagogue and politician. In 1898, he co-founded the League for Human Rights, which he chaired from 1914 to 1926. From 1902 to 1906 he was president of the Ligue de l'enseignement. In 1927, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to him jointly with the German Ludwig Quidde.

    He was Director of Primary Education in France from 1879 to 1896. In 1905, he chaired the parliamentary commission in charge of implementing the law on the separation of Church and State. He is known for his fight for secular education.
