Klíma was born on May 13, 1962, in Prague, Czech Republic. He was the son of Czech composer and conductor Ludvík Klíma and actress Jana Klímová. He is the grandson of Czech diplomat and diplomat Ludvík Klíma and grandson of the famous Czech actress and entrepreneur Zdenka (Svatava) Klímová (née Květinková).
Klíma is the second of five siblings. His father was not a musical person; his mother was. His mother’s musical talent was very strong and she encouraged her children to follow it. Klíma’s mother played the piano, but her son’s talent for music embraced a wide range of instruments including the cello, clarinet, piano, guitar, drums, mandolin, saxophone and violin. Klíma began to play the piano at a very early age and started to compose early on as well.
