Both Leucippus and Democritus were atomists and their philosophies were basically the same. Leucippus, however, was more of a philosopher and Democritus was more of a philosopher-physician.
Leucippus was a philosopher, who based his philosophy on the atomic nature of matter. He believed that everything in the universe was made up of atoms, which he called "Leukai". He held that the universe was eternal and that it began with the "Leukai" (atoms) and that since these atoms were indestructible, the universe would continue to exist forever.
Democritus, on the other hand, was a physician and he believed that the universe was made up of atoms which he called "Demos". He also believed that there was an endless supply of these atoms in the universe. Democritus held that the universe had a beginning because of this endless supply of atoms.
While both Leucippus and Democritus were philosophers, they did not agree with each other on many things.
