    Owen Flanagan, born in 1949, is Professor of Philosophy and Neurobiology at Duke University. His research interests include philosophy of mind, psychology, ethics, and some "readings" of Buddhism and Hinduism. This last field of research led to his involvement with the Mind and Life Institute. As far as the general theory of consciousness is concerned, Flanagan represents a naturalistic position which means that mental phenomena can be fully explained within a materialistic conception.
