Parmenides was born in Eleusis, Greece. He founded a school of philosophy along with Zeno and Melissus. Parmenides believed that ideas were to be believed in and not proven through logic or science. He believed that everything was one and that everything was perfect. He believed that all existences were unchanging and eternal. He argued that there was no difference between reality and appearance. He believed that all existences were perfect because they were unchanging, and unchanging entities must be perfect.
Parmenides' logical arguments were not logical at all; they were actually based on the Pythagorean theory of the relation of number to reality.
Parmenides' view can be summed up in four propositions:
