Parmenides believed that ideas were to be believed in and not proven through logic or science. He believed that everything was one and that everything was perfect. He believed that all existences were unchanging and eternal. He argued that there was no difference between reality and appearance. He believed that all existences were perfect because they were unchanging, and unchanging entities must be perfect.

    Parmenides' logical arguments were not logical at all; they were actually based on the Pythagorean theory of the relation of number to reality.

    Parmenides' view can be summed up in four propositions:

    2. There is only one thing.

    3. Everything is one and unchanging in its nature.

    Parmenides of Elea (fl. late sixth or early fifth century BC) was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher from Elea in Magna Graecia (Greater Greece, included Southern Italy). He was the founder of the Eleatic school of philosophy. The single known work of Parmenides is a poem, On Nature, which has survived only in fragmentary form.
