Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr personality type is INFJ, as is the person portrayed by the actor Ali Suliman in the film. The INFJ MBTI type is similar to the religion described by al-Sadr as well as the "people of the book" as described in the Qur'an. The character's name "Muhammad Baqir" is an Arabic variant of "Muhammad". The name al-Sadr is an Arabic variant of "al-Sadr", which in turn is a variant of the Arabic word "al-Sarraj". The character's name "Muhammad Baqir" could also be interpreted as a play on words, with the word "Muhammad" being a prefix meaning "the one who distinguishes himself from others". This is because al-Sadr is known for being extremely strict and has a reputation for distinguishing himself from others in terms of his willingness to go against traditional norms.

According to film critic Peter Bradshaw, the character "is more like an archetype than anything else".

Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (Arabic: آية الله العظمى السيد محمد باقر الصدر‎, March 1, 1935 – April 9, 1980), also known as al-Shahīd al-Khāmis, was an Iraqi Shia, philosopher, and the ideological founder of the Islamic Dawa Party, born in al-Kadhimiya, Iraq. He was father-in-law to Muqtada al-Sadr, a cousin of Muhammad Sadeq al-Sadr and Imam Musa as-Sadr. His father Haydar al-Sadr was a well-respected high-ranking Shi'a cleric. His lineage can be traced back to Muhammad through the seventh Shia Imam Musa al-Kazim. Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr was executed in 1980 by the regime of Saddam Hussein along with his sister, Amina Sadr bint al-Huda.
