José Julián Martí Pérez (Havana, January 28, 1853 - Dos Ríos, May 19, 1895) was a Cuban nationalist, intellectual, journalist, philosopher, poet and Mason, creator of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC) and organizer of the War of 1895 or Necessary War.
His thinking transcended the borders of his native Cuba to acquire a universal character. In his native country, he is also known as "El apóstol".
