Hwang Gi Nam is the younger brother of Hwang Bo Ra, and the two were raised in a poor family in North Korea. When Hwang Gi Nam was in his early teens, he developed a love for music and began to play the guitar. After his family moved to China, Hwang Gi Nam's father died and his brother left for South Korea. He started working as a cab driver and also started playing music in a band with his friend and fellow musician, Hwang Sang Yi.
Hwang Sang Yi and Hwang Gi Nam soon became successful and sold many records. They then received a recording contract from a record company, but after reading the contract, they realized that they had been deceived by their manager. The manager had told them they would be receiving money for each record they sold, but when they received their first payment, they found out that they had been scammed and had been given a fake payment. The manager had given them a payment of only 100 dollars.
When Hwang Sang Yi and Hwang Gi Nam realized that they had been scammed, both of them felt a sense of panic.
