I didn't know much about Monty Barlow when I was asked to write about him for The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction. I knew he was an SF writer who had won the Hugo Award for best novella in 1962, but that was about it. I turned to the online Wikipedia to research him, only to find that the entry was locked. "Locked" because there was nothing to read.
When I contacted Wikipedia, I was told that the information on Monty Barlow was locked for "security reasons."
Wikipedia is a treasure trove of information. It contains entries on all kinds of obscure topics. But when it comes to the people who are the topic of those entries, the information is locked away in a vault that can only be opened by a select few. It's a bit like the Vatican having the only copies of Leonardo da Vinci's journals, while you can buy a physical copy of the Mona Lisa for less than $20.
