Jerry Lewis personality type is INTP, which means he's a rare combination of a bold, independent, curious rationalist persuaded by evidence and logic. His eccentric humor and desire to be different made him a star in the 1950s and '60s, when he was a comic equivalent of Elvis Presley—somebody who was beyond ordinary. While Presley had the uncanny knack of being the King of Rock and Roll, Lewis had the ability to be the King of Comedy.

In his autobiography, "What's So Funny," Lewis wrote, "I wanted to be a comedian because I thought comedians were the most interesting people I'd ever known. I figured that since my father was a carpenter, I was going to be a carpenter. But when I got to high school, I discovered there were other types of people in the world besides carpenters, and it occurred to me that if I wanted to be a comedian I'd better look for a specialty."

Lewis had been an outstanding student in high school, but he dropped out when he was 17 and went to work as a mechanic's apprentice. He changed his major from auto mechanics to art and music appreciation because he wanted to study art history.

Jerry Lewis was an American comedian, filmmaker, actor, humanitarian and singer. Nicknamed "The King of Comedy", he was widely known for his "kid" and "idiot" persona and was one half of the famous Martin and Lewis with singer Dean Martin. Lewis appeared in 60 films and he was a director, producer and screenwriter. He helped to develop and popularize "video assist", the closed-circuit apparatus enabling film directors to see what had been shot without waiting for developed film footage. Throughout his career and during his tenure as national chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, he raised awareness for muscular dystrophy.
