Arkady Trubetskoy personality type is ESTJ, but of course I’m not spending time with him to get to know him. Instead I’m interested in his personality type because of the way he behaves within the story, at least in the part where he perceives the character of Lydia Ivanovna.
So I have to be careful about what I find out about him. For instance, if I find out that he is not the kind of person who is on his best behaviour, then that is information that I can use to influence his behaviour. It will be more difficult for me to manipulate his behaviour if I know that he is an unreliable narrator. So it would be useful for me to discover whether or not he is reliable.
On this occasion, my impression is that he is not. He is a man of few words, which is a sign of introversion, but it is also a sign of unreliable narration if he is only talking when he has something to say.
However, I’m aware that there may be information in his very unassertive manner which could be useful to me. The information I need to find out is how he relates to other people.
