Beppe Grillo personality type is ENTP, and I think that’s pretty accurate.
However, for this post I’ll go beyond the stereotypical traits and focus on the conceptual, existential and sociological elements of Grillo and his movement.
The concept
It’s no secret that the Five Star Movement is a post-ideological movement. Its members don’t share a common vision of the future Italy should become, and this lack of an ideological foundation, together with the movement’s extreme populism, has created a number of problems for the party’s leadership. In fact, Grillo has been criticized even by his own supporters for not being clear enough about the party’s agenda.
In his youth Grillo was a committed member of an Italian Communist Youth Organization (UOM) and a member of a small Trotskyist group called the Party of Communists. Grillo claims he left these political affiliations when he realized their cause was futile, but you can still catch him making several references to Marx in his speeches, or using Marxist philosophical terms such as “alienation” and “reification.
