Mr Major has often been described as being the "quiet man in the corner", but this is misleading. As a child he was quite shy, but he had a very strong sense of duty, which was to the point that he would often be seen doing things that most other boys his age wouldn't - even at the age of 10 he was expected to start school, and was terrified about it.
He was also rather humorless, and would never laugh at anything unless it was extremely funny, or had a serious political or economic message. He is also rather reserved, almost never wanting to talk about himself, and often refusing to answer questions about himself.
As a leader, Mr Major is very dependable, but his style of leadership is quite different from most people's. He wants to be liked, but is not very good at opening up to people. He will often be seen walking around the room, smiling at everyone and saying "Good morning" and such like.
He also does not like to be rushed, and will often take his time when making decisions, getting everyone to agree with him first.
Sir John Major KG CH (born 29 March 1943) is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party from 1990 to 1997. Major was Foreign Secretary and then Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Thatcher Government from 1989 to 1990, and was Member of Parliament (MP) for Huntingdon from 1979 until his retirement in 2001. Since the death of Margaret Thatcher in 2013, he has been both the oldest and earliest-serving of all living former prime ministers.
