Von der Leyen says that she has always had a passion for horses, which is probably why she studied animal husbandry at the University of Freiburg. She spent her time there with her horse, but her most favorite thing was always to read.
Von der Leyen's first job was as a secretary for the city administration of Bad Reichenhall. Afterward, she went to work as a secretary with the German Federal Ministry of Defense.
